B IS FOR BJORK (PT6)
When Bjork started her solo career in the early 1990s, she was living in London and was heavily influenced by the dance scene, particularly the more leftfield and experimental producers. All her early singles came with interesting choices of remixers. Today Graham Massey (808 State). This is from her 1995 single “Army of Me”. The track was written by Bjork and Graham Massey and produced by Nellee Hooper, Graham Massey and Bjork. The first mix is by Graham Massey and the second by Mike D (of The Beastie Boys). “Army of Me” was released in 1995 as the first, and leading, single from her third solo album “Post”. It is a grinding, industrial tune, punctuated by numerous samples of explosions and lyrics which encouraging the listener to stop complaining and get on with life – or else. The song also appeared, later in the same year, on the soundtrack of the dreadful Tank Girl, starring Ice T as a kangaroo (really!).
