NEW MUSIC: FUJI KURETA
A downtempo EP from Turkey. Some good tracks, some less so. Some tracks in English, some in French. Somewhere between Lamb and early Bjork.
Bio: Fuji Kureta is an electronica duo formed in August 2008 in Istanbul – Turkey. When the singer Deniz Öztürk and the composer Sahin Kureta met, they began to work on electronica sounding songs. The lyrics are in French and in English. Their sound oscillates between soft but strong melodies and very inventive beats.
The EP starts with “Bonjour”, with an amost musical box melody and childlike simplicity. A rather low key start. This is followed by “Lucid Dreams”, which continues the music box feel but with a delicately whispy tune, into which the vocals intrude too much. “Toutes Les Femmes” has the least organic feel of any of the tracks, sounding more machine-made and so being a more substantial track. It also has the most interesting beats. “Technically Gypsy” is probably the EP’s low point. “Accident”, retrieves the situation by being one of the strongest tracks. Some gentle bleeping, some almost trip hop beats and smooth vocals. A soothing hand on the brow. “Hommage” returns to the musical box feel to round out the EP but lets it end on an insubstantial note. If you download the whole EP, keep “Accident”, Bonjour and Toutes Les Femmes.
