NEW MUSIC: SUBURBAN DREAM / KID LOCO
Achingly beautiful remix of Kid Loco’s “Theme From The Graffiti Artist” by Ireland’s Suburban Dream and one of his own tracks as a special download.
Suburban Dream – or Ciaran McCarthy to his Mum - began as an act known as Crowd Control, producing downbeat, sometimes jazzy, chilled out grooves. With confusion arising from other bands using the same name it was decided to change to Suburban Dream. This name is taken from the label set up in 2007 by Crowd Control “Suburban Dream Recordings” His bio says: “With a number of well received releases behind him, Ciaran is now concentrating on an album and on developing a live show.”
He’s kindly agreed to take Ted’s Top Ten Quiz:
1. Weatherall or Oakenfold? Weatherall
2. ‘Snow in the Suburbs’ Thomas Hardy or ‘Slough’ John Betjeman? Hardy, mostly because we covered him in school!
3. Dance or Indie? Indie
4. Real instruments or synthesisers? Ouch… em… synthesisers
5. The Ice Storm or The ‘Burbs? The Ice Storm
6. Sigmund Freud ‘The Intepretation of Dreams’ or Carl Jung ‘Dreams’? Er…….
7. James Joyce or Samuel Becket? Joyce
8. Guiness or Bushmills? Guinness (that was easy)
9. 808 or 303? 808
10. U2 or David Holmes? David Holmes
Of the remix he says: “Remix I have just completed for Kid Loco, he has had quite an influence on my sound, “A Grand Love Story” being one of the first downtempo records I ever bought. This should see it’s way onto a Kid Loco release early 2011.” This is a lovely piece of work with fat, slow beats but retaining that classic Kid Loco dreamy, slightly wasted feel. This reminds me so much of Aim at his best or Grand Central’s better moments. Real quality.
And from his own work, “Whatever Happens”, a slow, soulful dub track, with wistful vocals. Music to drift away to.
