NEW MUSIC: Tape Warm – Silver Copy
Tape Warm are from Sao Paulo in Brail and specialise in analog disco. They are from that cosmic disco/Moroder thing that’s so present now. They say that Tape Warm is A person who is very knowledgeable about music, from any genre, from the mid 80′s to the mid 90′s when digital audio tapes were in heavy circulation. Not quite my definition but whatever. They have a new tune out – Silver Copy.
The original of Silver Copy is all Moroder and 70s disco funk. Pleasant enough. But the real winner is the DJ Zeyhan mix. This gives the original some extra time and space (but is, confusingly, no longer). Turns it into some seriously epic cosmic disco.
Tape Warm is a new school disco analog-based duo (Boris Kauffmann and Felipe Diniz) from Sao Paulo, Brazil. The name comes from the analog tape recorders that bring some “warmth” to the old recordings, and how it smooths everyting out. Also, Tape Warm was how they called a person who was very knowledgeable about music, from any genre, from the mid 80′s to the mid 90′s when cassette tapes were in heavy circulation.
“Silver Copy” is our first release as Tape Warm and it just came out on Beatport and Juno plataforms. It was recorded and mixed in our studio and after some time, Alex from the German label BeatzForFreakz Recordings came to us via Sound Cloud to release it. Along with the Original Mix, he also made a very space disco remix under his alias “DJ Zeyhan”.
We made a video for Silver Copy that shows a lot of the vinyl manufacturing process from the lacquer cutting to the industrial duplication and distribution.
We listen to a lot of 70’s disco funk vinyl from our family’s collections for sampling pruposes, and we also love that Moroder’s sound. A little drift and off-grid. The dirty drum-machine samples for early Chicago to that classic 90’s House pianos. From old school influences like John Davis and CHIC to the NYC new school acts like Metro Area, Holy Ghost!.
