THE BLOW MONKEYS – CHOICE

This is indie but also a bit Balearic and definitely political. But set against a jaunty tune. Normally, La Passionara is the track most referenced as Balearic. But I think this track has every much the same claim. The Blow Monkeys formed in 1981 and split in 1990. This single was released in 1989 at the tail end of the Thatcher administration and was a defiant blast against the language of choice. It featured vocals from Sylvia Tella. The Blow Moneys have recently reformed.

When you talk about choice
As if its something we were born with
This choice is for some, but not for everyone
And the way you talk about money
Like it’s the currency of faith
Then cast aside those who never make the grade
