PoP Camapign are a Scottish duo operating out of Berlin. They have have a style that reflects very early 80s new wave synth work. Not the shiny slightly vacuous 80s of Miami Vice, think instead Heaven 17 and Human League. The strongly Scottish vocals also remind me of early KLF. This is no longer new but is unusual. Blurb: PoP Campaign are a duo of music makers originally from Glasgow but now hibernating in Berlin. Our POPAGANDA: Bright, right and ready for the fight against the pretentious self-importance that plagues the music industry today. Rarely do new artists rise above their hype, but there are a select few whose music is grounded enough in influences to be considered credible and yet forward-thinking enough to cut through any false and fleeting accolades. The emerging Berlin duo PoP Campaign is such an artist, and the debut album, Kraut Popping, is a mix of the familiar (synth pop, krautrock, techno) and the youthful frontiers of the unknown (tracks like the lead off single “Herzlich Willkommen”). From top to bottom the album is stacked with pop music as filtered through analog soundscapes that defies simple comparisons to other contemporary artists.
