Morpeth FM

Local music for local people. Manchester, so much to answer for, eh? This is unashamedly Northern in its naming but the music is universal.  Although tracks like Rochdale Line sound to me as though they should be part of Friday Night Is Rockabilly Night, it in facts sits somewhere on the minimal ambient border. A couple of free downloads.

Rochdale Line is the stronger of the two track. A doleful drum and chiming synth guide the track along, like the slow gritty movement in a Lowry. Reminds me, inexplicably, of the walk from Manchester Station to the centre before it all got upgraded. No idea why. A southerner’s fear of the grey industrial North perhaps.

Grane Rd is a feinter track, with a more ambient leaning. It drifts along on xylophone and gentle synths until… it stops.

  1. Love your words Ctel. Will listen to these tomorrow.

  2. Very nice, both tracks especially the first one. Grane Road runs over the East Pennine moors towards Blackburn. Both grim and beautiful, depending on time of day/year.
