Brian Polar – Parties and Bad Dreams
San Francisco’s Brian Polar produces a varied electronic EP with a generally gentle flow. Late afternoon home listening. Will make less and less sense as the days and weather draws in. Free download.
Day Lost lazily runs by on a contrast between a buzzy bass and a high up melody. A lovely introduction. Peaking isn’t really any such thing. But it does have a low-level uplifting atmosphere. Jump The Gate has an electronic sound with something of the Blue Monday about the bass. Blank check is the most disposable of the tracks. Sunlight makes the most of the staged piano chords to evoke the comedown ending. There’s nothing earth-shattering here but it is still a really nice EP.
Blurb: “Brian Polar breathes life and emotion into the Parties & Bad Dreams EP, a brilliant and cohesive blend of Hip Hop, Chill Wave, and Indie Dance Music. This collection of songs will be interpreted differently each time they are played, simply relying on the elements and moods that come and go within the listener’s life. Each track is capable of shifting tone depending on the location, company shared, even time of day in which the EP is played. One song could be an uplifting anthem of hope and opportunity, only to snapback and drag you into the darkest depths of regret and loss. It all depends on how your mind and heart want to absorb it, and where your emotions truly lie in that time. It is the music for the moments between the highs and the lows, the moments where simply a different perspective can twist a party into a bad dream.”
