Inkfish – How Can I Believe

Inkfish provided a remix for Slighter the other day. Now Slighter returns the compliment, remixing one of Inkfish’s older tracks, How Can I Believe. Plus free download of recent track.

Swedish producers Inkfish  originally released this prog house track on their own Acting Out label in 2004. The track has been re-released, with a 2012 remix from Inkfish and a breaks remix from Slighter. The Inkfish 2012 mix is a big uplifting prog house tune, with happy ascending chords. Despite this, it never goes quite over the top, retaining a chilled edge. Slighter does a breaks mix, as you’d expect. He keeps the chilled edge and the vocals but the breaks add a degree of welcome menace. Although I kind of wanted Slighter to forget his decorum and cut loose for a bit for a breaks battering, however brief. That wasn’t Slighter’s intention, saying “My interpretation was intended to bring the tune off the dance floor and into something a bit more arm-chair.” I’d quite like a dub version of the Slighter mix.

The two tracks welded into one in the soundcloud below.

Inkfish – How Can I Believe (2012 Mix) + Slighter’s Non-Believer Remix

And, while we’re here, have a free download of an Inkfish track Slower, Kitten! (Puss In Heels Mix) which takes an electro approach to its prog house:

Blurb: 2004, Inkfish, vocals and breaks. 2012, Inkfish, vocals and progressive house. And breaks. Yes, today we are very proud to finally present our 2012 Mix of How Can I Believe! The 2012 Mix is true to the original, actually with most of the samples used back in 2004 still present, but totally reworked from scratch with a fresh sound and more suited for the dance floor anno 2012. On the flip side we have Slighter’s Non-Believer Remix; an awesome breaks mix from L.A. producer Colin C. Both tracks are also mastered by Colin. Unfortunately, the release is labeled wrong at the moment. The first track is right now labeled as the 2012 Mix, in the Progressive House genre, but that is Slighter’s Non-Believer Remix and should be in the Breaks genre with remix credits to Slighter. And then the second track is obviously our 2012 Mix.
