The XX – Chained (Recycle Culture Remix)

I know there are loads of remixes of this and other The XX tracks but here’s another. And free download of a mixtape.

Recycle Culture has done a few remixes scattered across soundcloud but there’s no information about him (and I’m going to say it’s a him). But in my head, he’s a 23 year old from Vermont. He had intended to go to New York by the time he was 21 but he can’t tear himself away from the job at the gas station. It may not be fulfilling but it gives him time to create music and forget that terrible accident with the lobster, the fish platter and his parents. His favourite colour is fushia but he can’t admit to that to his friends.

Chained is the usual gentle warbling from The XX’s Coexist album that’s so easy to forget is on. Recycle Culture gives the track a better sense of urgency and purpose, making full use of the chiming nature of the original.

To go with it, here’s a free downloadable long mix from Recycle Culture for DIS magazine. This is a bit different from the usual, being full of abrasive pop ambition and distorted noise.

  1. I liked your sketching of the remixer but you’re wrong about the album, welI I have to give it my full attention when it’s on anyway.
