50/Fifty Coming Up: #04 and #03
Last post before we find out who is in the top two. Before then, all manner of heaviness.
At #04 is cigar chomping Mr Grumpy Dave Clarke (more here) and his astonishing Wisdom To The Wise (1994), or as I still call it Red2. This gives a Detroit sound a right good thumping on the uncompromising beats. Goodness, this sounded fantastic in a club.
Best bit: the entry of the synths at 0.30

At #03, something even heavier. DJ Misjah and Dj Tim and their 1995 stormer Access. Fabi Paras used to play this pretty much every time that me and D saw him DJ at the Gardening Club in 95 and it killed the place every time. Never before had I been attracted to a tune that started of with no real foreplay, just straight into the most pounding drums and acid techno. Access contains uncredited vocal samples of ‘Picnic In The Summertime (Picnicapella)‘ performed by Deee-Lite, and of ‘Honky Tonk Pop Corn’ performed by Bill Doggett.
Best bit: when it comes off the drums and starts to build again from 2.44 to the break at 4.10

Red 2 fucking magic, love it, love it, love it!
