CHARITY SHOP CLASSICS

I used to love rummaging through second hand record shops, to see what promos and oddities I could find. But there are fewer these days. I am therefore forced into the falback of the charity shop. But there are still some reasonable pickings to be had.

Yesterday, I had a rummage in a shop which had recently received a new load of CDs. And from these emerged Hanson’s “MMMBop” and M-D-Emm’s “Get down”.

Hanson everyone remembers were those cute little boys who had the massive pop hit and then faded when they grew up, as is so often the cruel fate of child groups. But I hadn’t realised that the track had been produced by legendary US hip hoppers The Dust Brothers.

M-D-Emm are ravetastic, so much so that they sound museum pieces today. Formed in 1988 the name M-D-Emm was derived from a combination of the original line-up’s names – Mark Ryder, Dave Lee & Emmanuel Cheal. The Get Down track is from 1991.
