CHARITY SHOP CLASSICS (9)

A couple more tracks from the charity shop rummage. One well-known (All Saints), the other less so (Arkarna).

First up the well-known one, All Saints, who were huge at the end of the 1990s before fading from view (notwithstanding a recent attempted comeback) The group consisted of founding members Melanie Blatt and Shaznay Lewis, and sisters Nicole Appleton and Natalie Appleton, The track – Pure Shores – is from 2000. It was produced by and co-written with William Orbit. The track was used in the film “The Beach” and I think the music was originally offered to Madonna but she turned it down. The remix is by Tom Middleton, a UK electronic producer and DJ under his Cosmos alias – used mainly for his balearic house influenced productions. Tom has been around in various incarnations since the early 1990s and has been involved in such seminal outfits as Aphex Twin, Reload, Link & E621 and Global Communication.

Next up, Arkarna – who I’ve covered previously here. Arkarna were vocalist and programmer Ollie Jacobs, guitarist James Barnett and guitarist Lalo Creme (son of former 10cc member Lol Creme). From 1997 and their “House On Fire” single comes this pumping remix which happily dispenses with the annoying vocals that mar the other mixes.
