B IS FOR BENT (PT2)

Some more quirky downtempo from Bent.
Bent are Simon Mills and Nail Tolliday. Setting up their own label, Sport Recordings, the duo released three EPs (one as Johnny Flash And The Flames) before a highly-praised debut, “Programmed To Love”. They formed Bent in Nottingham in 1997 after becoming disillusioned with the state of dance music at the time. Tolliday had previously been part of a famous Midlands-based sound system, DIY.
I remember having heard about Bent in 1999 but being unable to find any of their records in London. I therefore dreamed up an excuse to go to Nottingham and made sure I had a bit of free time to find the local independent record store and got their first two 12″ on Sport records. They were wonderful, and only bettered by Lemon Jelly.
Some remixes from singles released off their “Programmed To love” debut album:
Bent – Always (Ashley Beedle’s Mahavishnu Remix) Hightly recommended
Bent – Swollen (Beloved Cafe Del Marsh Mix)
Bent – Always (Francois K Remix)
