CHARITY SHOP CLASSICS (21)

Another from a long and initially fruitless trawl of my favourite charity shops. Just when I was giving up hope, I spotted it. Some Andy Weatherall mixes from the mid 90s.

So, I bring you loud and noisy Northern Irishmen Therapy? who allowed their 1994 single “Nowhere” to be graced by a bit of the Weatherall magic. The original track is a guitar assault and the Weatherall mixes reflect this.

The Sabres of Paradise mix has quite a hard and fast drum track, allied to distorted and whoosing guitar sounds. The Therapeutic Distortion mix keeps the drums and ramps up the guitars. If Weatherall’s 1990-93 mixes reflect the wonderment of Ecstasy, many of his later mixes are harder and seem to be accompanied by a Coke snarl. Not that I know anything about Mr Weatherall’s drug intake but you know what I mean…
