D IS FOR D.O.P. (PT3)

Some more progressive house sounds by D.O.P. from the early 1990s.

D.O.P. (Dance Only Productions) comprised Kevin Swain and Kevin Hurry. The two met in school and decided they wanted to produce music together. Their most notable releases include “Groovy Beat” and “Take Me”. D.O.P. also released tracks under the alias “The Chameleon Project”, whom I covered previously here.

From an interview with Kevin Swain in 2002 (365 Mag):

HOW/WHEN DID YOU DISCOVER MUSIC?
Kevin: From a very early age, I was always fascinated by music, I was always wondering how it was made, thinking “how do you get that sound?”

WHAT BROUGHT YOU INTO DANCE MUSIC, WHAT IS IT THAT ATTRACTED YOU TO IT?

Kevin: Again, I was drawn to it; I had no control over it! It was inevitable, the pulse of drums are infectious.

WHEN DID YOU START PRODUCING?
Kevin:I made my first track in 1989, it was on the ‘Live at the brain’ album.

WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO WORK WITH?

Kevin: That’s a tough question!! There are so many people I would love to work with! Above all though I suppose it would be Brain Eno and David Byrne.WHAT INSPIRES YOUR SOUND AND CREATIVITY?Kevin: What’s going down in clubs first of all. But if it were with vocals or some kind of studio setting, it would be performance.

WHAT DO YOU LISTEN TO?
Kevin: Anything that catches my ear! It’s as simple as that.
HAVE YOU CONSIDERED OTHER VEINS OF MUSIC (I.E.: AMBIENT, SOUNDTRACK, ETC.)?
Kevin: Oh yeah! Like all the time, but you have to know the right people at the right time. It’s not our time YET!
From 1993 and 1994:
