D IS FOR DEMPSEY

A bit of a lo-fi oddity this one. Dempsey is Keiran Hebden (aka Four Tet) and Geoff McIntire.

I picked up this 7″ single in 2002. I only did so because it said that it featured Kieran Hebden and I’d loved his Four Tet folktronica work. But the single was more of an indie lo-fi offering. The main track was “ODB on the Run” about the notorious Wung Tang member. It was more reminiscent of something by The Beta Band. The single came from an eponymous album. The Dempsey album has two musical themes Sunrise & Sunset. Kieran Hebden and Geoff McIntyre guesting on the Sunrise side, while Output label boss Trevor Jackson (aka The Underdog) on the Sunset side. “Buzz” comes from Trevor’s side of the album.
