HI! MR WEATHERALL (3)

Day three of Weatherall’s birthday week. Today’s early remixes feature the classic Primal Scream and The Grid.

If ever a single record catapaulted band and remixer into the first division it was Weatherall remixing I’m Losing More Than I’ll Ever Have into the dance rock monster that is “Loaded”. He went on to produce much of Primal Scream’s 1991 album Screamadelica. The album connected the indie scene with the rave culture that was sweeping across the UK. I remember hearing it for the first time on John Peel and being astonished at the inventiveness and that it was Primal Scream. D will always remind me that she heard it first when Weatherall dropped the acetate in a club prior to release. Pah!

The Grid featured in the Your Choice series in December but it’s one of my favourite Weatherall productions. In December I said “Also from 1990, Andy Weatherall’s remix of The Grid’s chillout classic “Floatation”. The Grid were Dave Ball (ex-Soft Cell) and Richard Norris (ex-Jack The Tab, Psychic TV). This is one of those Weatherall remixes where he doesn’t actually do that much to the original but somehow lifts it and gives it twinkling toes.”

Primal Scream – Loaded (Weatherall Mix) like no-ones heard this before!
