J IS FOR JX
Since the last post was some classic trance, might as well carry on in a populist vein with Hooj Tunes’ JX. There was a time in 1994/5 when you could not get away from the massive, screaming hit “Son Of A Gun”.
JX was a dance music project led by Jake Williams started in 1993 regularly featuring guest vocalists. JX are best remembered for their hits “Son Of A Gun” and “There’s Nothing I Won’t Do”. Jake has also been involved in Planet Perfecto recordings, using the name Mekka, and is now better known as the ultra-credible Rex the Dog. Perhaps a reaction to the ultra commercial sounds of JX?
Son Of A Gun (featuring vocalist Billie Godfrey) is one of those annoyingly catchy tunes that gets under your skin, whether you want it to or not. It’s hardly surprising that Jake once said that his production name “JX”, was “all about chasing a hit”.
