PLASTIKMAN / MOBY
Just noticed this on the fabulous audio.out site. There’s a new Plastikman remix from Moby for free download at RCRDLBL.
Born to a robotics engineer father who worked at General Motors and obsessed over Kraftwerk, Richie Hawtin aka Plastikman was destined to hit the burgeoning house scene in Detroit. At 17, he started DJing at warehouse parties in the Motor City and years later his impact is still felt. “Krakpot” originally appeared on his 1994 record Recycled Plastik, but in honor of chronicling his long career, he’s invited some of the people that inspired him to refit his originals on a compilation called Arkives. Hawtin and techno artist/tea slinger/Minor Threat-enthusiast, Moby came up together at those warehouse parties and now he’s re-fashioned the track from thumping house into something a little bit more ethereal. A testament to the history of electronic music, just like the rest of Arkives, which comes out in February.
