REMIXING CLASSICS: Depeche Mode – Puppets (Royksopp Remix)
I tweeted this yesterday and no doubt there are posts everywhere about it. But on the offchance you’ve not otherwise heard about it, there’s a Royksopp remix of Depeche Mode to listen and download.
Never been a particularly big fan of Depeche Mode. All that leather and black put me off. I liked them more when they were nice little synth boys. Which is where this remix comes it. Instead of playing up the industrial elements of Depeche Mode, Royksopp remix an early track (1981) and go for a gentle, soothing synth sound. They make it much more, well, Royksopp.

Blurb: On June 7 in the U.S. and a day earlier in the UK, Mute/Reprise will release the Depeche Mode remix collection Remixes 2: 81-11. The album includes reworkings of tracks from throughout Depeche Mode’s career, by people like M83, Trentemøller, and UNKLE, as well as brand new remixes from Röyksopp, Stargate, Karlsson & Winnberg (aka Bloodshy and Avant of Miike Snow), and Eric Prydz. Two former members of Depeche Mode also contribute new remixes: Vince Clarke, who went on to form Yazoo and Erasure, and Alan Wilder, who now leads Recoil.
