NEW MUSIC: AIMES – Your Floor Is A Tree
This is one of those that I can’t work out. I’ve had it for a few weeks and I’m none the wiser now whether I like it or not. Listen only.
Aimes is Aman Ellis, whose single Every Time When I See You we had back here. And now the album from which it was taken. Like the single, this is called indie dance. A bit of a misnomer. The LP’s title track is a proper piece of offbeat galloping dance, with sunshine synths. I like it. But too much of the rest is psychadelic indie dance. If You Ever Wanna even throws in a bit of C&W/Gram Parsons. The contrast with Hard Notes & Love Drugs’ Moroderesque synths jars.
The contrasts ultimately do for me, as it’s a collection of songs, not an album. If you prefer dance, stick to Your Floor Is A Tree and Hard Notes & Love Drugs. For a better review than mine try The Get Downnn.
