INDIE WEEK: The Mighty Lemon Drops – Beautiful Shame

From 1989 comes this single from The Mighty Lemon Drops, who made up in longevity (1985-93) for their lack of significiant success. Always middle-ranking. And this single is classic generic mid-80s indie. Slightly jangly, as the influence of the Smiths reverberated.

I wish I had to courage to tell you what I heard
I heard a rumor but I didn’t say a word
I know a lot of things are based on what you told
It makes the body hot
?Your face look like rotten cold?

?Well, when you said only one for a reason?
You take advantage while I’ll take the blame
And when I hear you it’s hard not to believe it
Yeah, you dance like a beautiful shame

?I started thinking how I push thru with this ship?
I can’t admit to be the first to play this game
?For all of the other ways it matters with my time?
?I never even figured I was out of her mind?

?Well, when you said only one for a reason?
You take advantage while I’ll take the blame
And when I hear you it’s hard not to believe it
Yeah, you dance like a beautiful shame

?I can’t explain the way that I feel everyday?
I really kind of could but I guess it’s just my way
I feel a lot of things I feel them all thru you
You are the edge you are the resurrection too.

Well, when you said only one for a reason
You take advantage while I’ll take the blame
And when I hear you it’s hard not to believe it
Yeah, you dance like a beautiful shame
Yeah, you dance like a beautiful shame
Yeah, you dance like a beautiful shame
Yeah, you dance like a beautiful shame
Yeah, you dance like a beautiful shame

Dance like a beautiful shame
Dance like a beautiful shame
Dance like a beautiful shame
Dance like a beautiful shame
You dance like a beautiful shame
