NEW MUSIC: CYAN341 – DISCONNECTED

When I hear moody techno, I immediately think of D, head in a bassbin at a sweaty club. It was always a bit – I didn’t come here to ejoy myself. I came to get fucked and dance. And this is one of those releases. But it’s also one of those where the remixes are better than the slightly straight original. The See The Road mix gives the tech house original a bit more beef in a dark, club mode. The Abstract Source goes in the opposite direction, turning it into a glittery house number. A real winner. The Area Reshape mix goes back in the dark corner for a techno dub mix. Highly recommended package.

And here’s Cyan341’s own dub of his original, which slows everything down.

Blurb: Cyan341 is East London producer Mark Streatfield. Ahead of his debut album (also forthcoming on UA), this new 12” showcases ‘Disconnected’, a track exclusive to this release, alongside a range of remixes from some of the hottest underground talent that techno has to offer. Alongside the glitchy dub-tech of the original, side A sees Nottingham’s See The Road turn in a dark warehouse thumper. On the flip, another up-and-coming London producer, Jules Dickens aka Abstract Source, turns up the house pressure with a nigglingly catchy bassline and uplifting chords. Rounding off the EP on a wonkier tip is Chicago’s man-of-the-moment Area, whose discography continues to grow constantly. A uniquely swinging dub techno take on the original!
