TEN TECHNO CLASSICS 2: 69 – Desire

Carl Craig, in the guise of 69, taken from the Lite EP and released on the R & S label. A magical sample of mellow, almost sorrowful, techno, carried along by a plaintive, occasionally out of tune, synth that wheels around carelessly, augmented by a backbone of drums and gently throbbing bass that all add up to one seriously lovely track. I like the fact that this sounds quite rough, even messy, around the edges, it doesn’t feel like it’s been refined to death. Trawling through twenty odd years of Craig’s output, attempting to select just one track, whilst exhausting, makes you appreciate not only how prolific he’s been but the sheer variety of his work. BFC, Paperclip People, Psyche, 69 and then some, all his projects and I doubt you could find one duff record amongst them. Masterful.
