Orbital Live 2012

So, me and D went to see Orbital last night, as part of her Christmas present. I’m hoping she’s going to do a review, so you’re not going to get one from me.

Suffice to say, I was rather tired for it after a long week, following long prior weeks. But Orbital did a really punchy set. Even Halcyon got to the point pretty quickly. No concessions made on the insistent, pounding beats to the middle-aged worrying about their backs and their babysitter. The lights and graphics are pretty astonishing these days, when I look back on what it was like in the early 90s. But I could do without the permanent forest of people taking photos on their phones and tweeting. Enjoy the bloody show.

Here’s what (I think) was the last track – Where Is It Going – in its live form:

There was an afterparty but I needed to go home for cocoa and bed

  1. I think Where Is It Going is their new ‘anthem’ in a way. I’ve seen them at Manchester Academy and in Preston this year and it was a highlight both times.

  2. Sounds good. Wish I’d gone when they were up here

  3. Yeah, that sounds mighty good. Saw Orbital live 20 years ago with Aphex Twin and Moby – incredible show. I guess I missed the brothers when they toured the US earlier this year. Glad you were able to catch them, Ted.
