50/Fifty Coming Down: #50 and #49

Welcome to the Coming Down part of 50/Fifty, since after every coming up there had to be a come down. And this is the soundtrack to mine.

At #50 we have Beaumont Hannant and Utuba. This is a slight fix, since this version of Utuba is from the Artificial Intelligence II compilation released on Warp Records in 1994. However, a different version did appear on Beaumont Hannant’s 1994 single Tastes and Textures Vol 3. Beaumont Hannant has appeared on Acid Ted a number of times, since I think he’s now unfairly forgotten in the roll of IDM heroes from Sheffield (more here). This track is a good example of his work. There’s a wheezy charm to the underlying space station noises.

At #49, we sort of stick with Beaumont Hannant for a remix he did for another Sheffield band, autechre (more here), in 1994. This is Basscadet (Beaumonthannanttwomx). It is autechre in their more melodic early phase but with enough machine metal bashing to keep things interesting.
