50/Fifty Coming Down: #32 and #31
As memories of London 2012 fade, Sabres of Paradise and Lamb are on today’s menu.
At #32 is Sabres of Paradise with the beatless mix of Smokebelch from 1993. Most people favour the dance floor friendly (if not storming) mixes. But from the first itme I heard it, I’ve always preferred this mix, with its delicate chiming refrain and ache of the drawn out strings.
And while we’re here, you might as well have this dance floor remix of Smokebelch from Tone396
And an Essential mix from Mr Weatherall, which includes the beatless mix of Smokebelch
At #31 is Lamb and their heart-breaking tune Gorecki, which samples the second movement of Henryk Górecki’s Third Symphony, the Symphony of Sorrowful Songs. This isn’t like their earlier more dnb efforts, it’s a strung out trip hop of utter sadness evoked mainly by Louise Rhodes’ voice.
if i should die this very moment
i wouldn’t fear
for i’ve never known completeness
like being here
wrapped in the warmth of you
loving every breath of you
still my heart this moment
or it might burst
