DJ Hero – Necessary Ingredients EP 2

necessaryingredients2

New music from Ground Level. This is big room music; nay, huge room music. This is punching you in the face forever and throwing  you on the dance floor. Old people like me should stay home. Free download.

Let’s start with the freebies. First, DJ Hero does a re-rub for Sander Van Doorn, who’s style is usually Dutch trance. But DJ Hero subverts that into a rave breakbeat animal. Sub-bass guns the engine before rave chords stamp on the accelerator. Trebled to the max this drives headlong to the sea.

Sander Van Doorn, Julian Jordan – Kangaroo (DJ Hero Re-Rub)

Next freebie, a DJ Hero re-edit for Bauer. This owes less to rave and more to a trap-does-breakbeat sound. I’m still not sure about trap tbh. This does have a deep and dirty bass, mind.

Baauer – Harlem Shake (DJ Hero Re-Edit)

And so to the new EP. Let’s start with the last track, a remix of Punk Breaka’ by John Bradley. This is a fine remix, taking its time to gradually build towards a huge party break. Bass spattered all over the place. The original mix takes breaks, bass and rave in a hip hop stew. Adverse Effects doesn’t mess about, lanching almost straight into that distorted bass sound that seems so popular. Then goes all trance chords in a dizzying amalgam. A few too many ideas in this one.

Blurb: From euphoric chords, to hip hop vocals via acid house and lots of big room bass, DJ Hero is flexing his musical muscles this year. The 5 EPs, all featuring a mix of original new tracks and re-edits of Ground Level back catalogue, will also be joined by a mix album on iTunes later this year, combining the tracks from the EPs with DJ Hero’s previous remixes for Ground Level. Two new tracks in part 2, first up Adverse Effects – a workout of wobble and filth, set off against an 808 bass and peak time chords! Punk Breaka works around a rolling arpeggio, morphing it in and out of several different mutations solidly pinned to a superfat beat!
