Dr Meaker – Skyfall (Adele Cover)

Following Adele’s Oscar win, I thought you might like this cracking cover from Dr Meaker. The Bristolians give the slightly too-respectful original a welcome re-boot by making it into a dnb anthem and adding some much needed grit in the process. This track has been out a little while but is absolutely wonderful. Free download.

The track was originally first aired at Radio 1 Live Lounge appearance. This is a fantastic symphonic dnb tune. Lorna’s vocals may not quite be Adele but they do justice to the tune, giving it a smokier interpretation. And the dnb beats make the whole thing more epic.

The tune has since been re-recorded by Dr Meaker for a proper release. The Original dnb mix is a cleaner version of the Live Lounge version. And as is so often the case with these things whilst it loses a little of its fragile beauty it also gains a stronger, more confident vocal. There’s also a Me Darker dnb mix which ramps up thr beats and bass. This is the stronger mix.

Blurb: Dr Meaker’s ‘Skyfall’ was originally performed on Trevor Nelson’s BBC 1Xtra Live Lounge; a show where each guest band are required to perform a cover version. Mr Nelson then suggested that Dr Meaker record a full studio version and the band took his advice, turning in not one, but two versions; the gloriously symphonic original remix, and the tougher, dirtier Me Darker remix. These studio versions have already gained early support from Annie Mac on Radio 1, Ace, Sarah Jane Crawford, Trevor Nelson and target on 1Xtra. D&B heavyweights Jumping Jack Frost and Dillinja have also heaped praise on the track, with a string of other underground DJs also getting on-board. Dr Meaker are Clive Meaker (producer, keyboards & vocals), Lorna King (vocals), Tom Wheeler (Drums), Dexter Edmund (Bass), Jon Winder (Trumpet) & Ben Wood (Sax).
