autokratz – Midnight Hearts

autokratz are  back with a couple of new tracks of electro techno pop ahead of their new album, which, rather boringly, isn’t out until next year. Why? Seriously. Why?

Anyhow, the lead track, Midnight Hearts, is all rather poppy in a faux New Order way. Safe to say I found it disappointing. But I’m not the kids and no doubt in a club / at a concert this would be great singalong. For those of us left only with kitchen dancing, Cracked City is a safer bet. There’s less vocals, less pop and more gloom. This one grooves in a more sophisticated way and is a fine track.

Blurb: Midnight Hearts is the first single to be taken from autoKratz third studio album ‘LUNA’. Set for release in early 2014, it’s the follow up to 2011’s Self Help For Beginners, for which Q Magazine proclaimed that “superclub dance floors are safe in this London duo’s hands; 4/5.”

Midnight Hearts sees the band return to their signature songwriting style; compulsive vocal hooks and contemporary electronics weave together and call upon the lineage of Manchester’s fine electronic history. It follows a string of successful club releases on their Bad Life label under their techno moniker, which notched up a raft of ‘single of the month’ accolades in DJ Mag & Mixmag and made their way into the record bags of the worlds biggest DJ’s. The band’s split personality meant that they were always bound to return to their love of songwriting and the album format. Midnight Hearts heralds that return, a track as addictive as it is full of charm; a fists-in-the-air moment of electronic pop perfection which points to the promise of the new album.

autoKratz exploded out of the French electro scene back in 2008 with the mini album album ‘Down and Out In Paris & London’ and their 2009 debut full length Animal, both released on iconic Parisian label Kitsune. Having toured every corner world off the back of these records, 2011 saw autoKratz return to London and set up Bad Life, a record label which has since launched the career’s of Petite Noir, Qtier, Fé & Attaque. The label has built a reputation for championing quality, forward thinking artists without boundaries, and has been described by DJ Mag as ‘one of the best new labels in electronic Music’.

  2. […] Nerd Flanders is a silly name. Made me think it would be silly synth pop, trying to be ‘ironic’. Thankfully not. This is a pair of Italian DJs producing techno with an electro bent. Think autokratz. […]
