Banco De Gaia – For Such a Time EP

forsuchatime

One of the pleasing things about this year has been the return of Toby Marks with a new album, a remix album and some singles. Here’s his last offering for the year, For Such a Time. Free download of live classic.

This is a track from his Apollo album which has been remixed by System 7, Kuba and Animat. The original is a beautiful flute-driven floaty thing. Kuba adds some bassiness, almost giving it a dub feel. All very chilled. But adding some grounding weight to the original. System 7 do what System 7 do and give it a tranceish, hippyish vibe with lots of rippling synths. Animat slows things down some more for a woozier, dubbier take on things. Hard to fully enjoy in the cold of an English winter but lovely if you’re somewhere warm or want to transport yourself.

And if you haven’t already done so, might I suggest you get this free download live version of the classic Last Train to Lhasa

Blurb: The final single from “Apollo” marks the end of a magical year for Banco De Gaia, with the release of his first new album since 1996, the three subsequent singles and then the remix album “Ollopa”. Along the way there have been shows all over the world, from Italy to Japan and Russia to Hungary. ‘For Such a Time’ features remixes from three excellent UK based producers: soundcloud.com/kuba-laurence-harvey provides a dreamy, Zero 7-esque version with a rolling bassline and floating synths; soundcloud.com/system7 add their distinctive twisting and playful style to the track, creating an ethereal vibe around a distinctly feel-good rhythm; while soundcloud.com/animat’s take is more of a deep and dubby affair, awash with echo and delay, creating a lush and warm space.
