Leave it Debs

Oi Debs. You’re a big platinum Noo Wave star, but your rap’s in bad shape. With me it’s a full time job. Now behave yourself.

Ah Debbie Harry. The wet dream of all late 70s/early 80s teenage boys (except me, it would appear) but you’ve got to admit a poor rapper. That desecrator of soft pop rock classics Luxxury is back for another nu disco re-edit, this time of Blondie’s Rapture (1981). The video for this – see below – may have been the first rap video on MTV but Ms Harry’s rap wasn’t terribly good. This remix focuses on the funky bass line and the inherent dubbiness of the tune. It’s all a biit more relaxed than the original but he does have to go and the leave the rap in. Tsk.

Made using (mostly) only bits from the original multitrack stems. Number 9 in an ongoing series. Collect them all.

  1. She never did anything for me, either.

  2. Well, I feel sorry for the both of you.

  3. Debbie is awesome. If the rap wasn’t good… It wouldn’t have been #1!
