Pearl – Luke Laughlin
You might remember we had Luke Laughlin last autumn with his ambient piano tunes. Here’s a new one that’s kept the piano but added beats – mainly dubstep. Free download.
I was expecting some floaty chillstep but this packs more of a punch than you’d expect. Inevitably, there’s some piano at the intro but the chillstep drums follow pretty quickly. The keening vocals drift occasionally too close to Enya but the there’s nothing fey about the track. It goes for a bass and drums approach – perhaps even a bit too much bass. But you can’t fault the ambition.
