Janis – Never There EP

Here’s some fine new techno from Janis to enjoy. The track is Sloan Great Wall and it’s a big rumbling thing with some great light and shade.

Sloan Great Wall is a stomper of a techno track. But it nevertheless shows a great fleetness of foot from adroit use of Echo and dubbed effects. And latterly in the track house piano chords are let loose. Let there be dark; let there be light; let there be dancing.

The EP, out on the Smile For A While label, also includes the title track, Never There, a summer house vocal track. Included some nice tinkling piano but is slightly too retro in its approach. There’s then a remix from Johannes Albert which replaces the summer ones of the original with some deeper house sounds, giving what amounts almost to a dub version. F FM House completes the quartet with a warped version of a 90s vocal house track.

Sloan Great Wall is where the EP really lets itself go and pushes the boundaries. Enjoy or buy.
