London – Paris – Barcelona

The haunting of history is ever present in Barcelona. I see cities as organisms, as living creatures. To me, Madrid is a man and Barcelona is a woman. And it’s a woman who’s extremely vain. (Carlos Ruiz Zafon) This tech house track Barcelona from Ronnie Rose is certainly swinging its hips in a provocative manner.

We will forgive Ronnie Rose his background as a jazz drummer for this track. The sample of London – Paris – Barcelona merely adds to the sultry sense of the track. It’s therefore a surprise to find out that Ronnie is an American. This is a very European sounding track. Tech house but with a Latin swing. The guitar shards may put purists off but here they simply add to the track.

There are a couple of remixes. Matthew Gendreau takes it in a more Kraftwerkian techno direction and Paolo Lucchi into deep house territory. Matthew’s is the more successful remix with Paolo’s losing some of the edge that made the original mix thrill. But neither top the original.
