C-Jay – BackSlider Parts 1-6

Farmer

Yesterday, the rain was falling, it was windy and chilly. Spring seemed all too far off. Today, the sun is shining, there’s a slight breeze rustling the narcissi and everything feels that bit more optimistic. Here’s some ambient electronica from C-Jay on Bedrock that matches that mood.

Sometimes you want something challenging. Sometimes only leftfield will do. But sometimes, you want comfort, reassurance and pure enjoyment. C-Jay’s BackSlider is all those latter things. There’s a fabulously melodic sense to it all. Never hurried but never wallpaper. The samples musing on the nature of happiness add that little grit that you need.

A teaser campaign to introduce C-Jay to Bedrock fans began when the opening track BackSlider Part 1 was previewed on last summers excellent Underground Sound of Ibiza Series 2 (Bedrock) compilation, and continued with the ultra-hypnotic BackSlider Part 3 being previewed on John Digweeds most recent Live In Montreal (Bedrock) opus. Now, the full 6-part musical jigsaw puzzle that is BackSlider is completed in style. With talent and diverse releases like this, 2016 is already shaping up to be an amazing year for electronic music!

Born in 1976 in a small town in the rural parts of Holland, the multi-talented C-Jay took up an early interest in electronic and experimental music of artists like Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis and Tangerine Dream. At the age of 11, C-Jay got his first musical education on the ins-and-outs of both digital and analogue instruments, with the enthusiastic love and support of his parents and a local music teacher. His love for synthesizers grew and pretty soon young C-Jays bedroom was swamped with analogue synths and drum machines, paid for by his weekend jobs. Now, years later, C-Jay is as diverse as it gets in todays dance music business: a former record store owner (Sessions Recordstore), a DJ, a producer, a label owner (The Sessions Recordings), promoter of his own underground nights called Electric Cafe, and Head of Dance Music Licenses at Dutch authors rights company Buma / Stemra.

C-Jay’s rigorous studio output means he already has a hectic summer of performances being lined-up, with slots scheduled for Pleasure Island Festival, Mystic Garden Festival, Wasteland, Recycle Lounge and a secret under-the-radar summer festival to be announced soon.
