Ron S. – Equinox E.P.
Here’s some great techno from Ron S. Very much done with an understanding of the past. Some German 90s influences and even a bit of acid.
This was one of those emails that arrives without fuss, hyperbole or… well… anything. So, I’ve no idea who or what Ron S is. Seems to be from St Louis. I know that one is supposed to meet someone in St Louis but with whom and to do what I know not.
That reverence for techno’s past may be why the first track is called Stromatolites. These, as I’m sure you will recall, are layered bio-chemical accretionary structures formed in shallow water by the trapping, binding and cementation of sedimentary grains by biofilms of microorganisms, especially cyanobacteria. But there’s nothing fossilised about the tune. This only offers some soft beats with the lead being taken by an accretion of synths. Sometimes dubbing, sometimes acidic. Very nice.
The other track is Equinox. This is a harder track. Beats come to the fore, with some 80s influences. Very much a club track with little variation.
