Honey and Snow

House is a tricky genre. There’s not much of it that I enjoy. It’s the link back to disco. Gives me 70s flashbacks. And not in a good way. In a yin and yang way here’s two contrasting tracks. Honey by Jinx and KSHMR & Felix Snow with Touch (Twalle Remix).

Honey is a rather fabulous track. The vocal doesn’t go for wailing effect and reaching for high notes. It’s a downbeat vocal that offers a great contrast to the electronics surrounding it. Doesn’t half remind me of Beth Orton and Two Lone Swordsmen – see below.

Next Touch. Remixed by Twalle from Rhode Island, USA. This has a breathy pop vocal but can’t resist applying all sorts of trickery to it. Why? Sometimes sonics can elevate a track. But too much and it tips over an edge for me.

Here’s Anywhere by Beth Orton remixed by Two Lone Swordsmen.

  1. Controversial. House is the starting point in many ways and some of it is wonderful.

  2. I love a lot of house but then again if pushed to listen to one genre of music it would be danceable soul music which was the precursor to disco and therefore house.
