Techno Thursday with John Amy and Eelke Kleijn

Two contrasting techno tunes from John Amy and Eelke Kleijn, neither of whom goes for anything too taxing or thudding.

John Amy’s Spaces is a free download. It’s a tune that owes much to dub techno with it’s throbbing bass line. This gives the track a wonderful depth of feeling. Likewise the crispness of the beats retains a danceability that’s all too often lost in dub techno.

Eelke Kleijn on the other hand offers us The Terminal. This is a more measured, cerebral track. The combination of the half-breaths and the waves of synths give it a reassuring yet unsettling quality. Flickers of almost-piano lines are reminders of progressive house. This is exemplary mood music with Vangelis-style swells and orchestral sweeps.
