Downtempo tunes from Inchange and Chris May

A pair of downtempo electronic tunes from Inchange and Chris May.

Russia’s Inchange (Michael Soldatkin) proffers the softer sounds of the pair. Night Shift ripples away with a lovely synth line and some background drone tones giving a sense of abiding peace to it all. The track is taken from the Through Noise EP.

Chris May offers “I’m a producer & visual artist based in LA who explores the metaphysical through sound & images.” This had me scurrying for a dictionary to look up ‘metaphysical’? Seems to me like a branch of philosophy that explores the nature of reality. It’s seeking to understand what is there and what is it like. There were also metaphysical poets, but that’s too weird for me. Taking the word back to its original construction makes more sense. The word Metaphysics comes from Ancient Greek, where it was a combination of two words – Meta, meaning over and beyond – and physics. Wiki has a longer explanation, not all of which I understood.

That’s rather a heavy burden for any track to bear. And essentially intellectual tracks often break under the weight of their own expectations. Break You is therefore best enjoyed as an IDM that mixes simplicity with complexity. The lead synth is a simple pleasing sound. But underneath there is a lot more going on in the beats, the extra synths and strings. Even glitch gets used to a good effect. The reality is that this is a wonderful electronic tune which constantly entertains.
