PACIFIC STATE – “1990”

Can you get a more 1990s title than Pacific State 1990? This is ravey techno with more than a little debt owed to 808 State, A Guy Called Gerald and the rest but still manages to sound fresh. That it doesn’t in any way try to be ‘ironic’ about its debt to others is great. And that lovely piano line is part of its honest charm.

  1. A trivia: it samples Inner City’s keyboard (used in Big Fun and Good Life) which, in turn, was sampled from “Nitro Deluxe – Let Get Brutal” (see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r1h2XmWXBI), even though nobody but a few people know what synthesizer that sound originally came from.
    Cheers! 🙂

  2. marvellous trivia
