Kevin Saunderson – Heavenly Revisited Album #techno

Kevin Saunderson is One of the originators of Techno and one-third of the legendary The Belleville Three alongside Juan Atkins and Derrick May. We owe him much.

He’s inevitably adopted all manner of aliases, such as E-Dancer and Inner City. His first E-Dancer album was 1998’s Heavenly. Since it’s nearly 20 years on he’s decided to update it. That’s a good thing in many ways but has it stood up to the test of time?

The answer to it’s status today is, sort of. Too many of the original tracks seem lost in time, even with a new bit of spit and polish. But things like Behold, with its house piano line and the few additional tracks added – like the excellent Into The Future – show what’s changed and how to survive today. That said, and acknowledging the debt he’s owed, techno was always of the future, so things of the past should be left in the past.
