Moth Collector – Rise #abstract #hiphop

You know, there’s not enough abstract hip hop being produced of the early DJ Shadow and Amon Tobin variety. This track – Rise – from Moth Collector does just that to superb effect. There are languid strings and melancholic synth lines but given structure and soul from the hip hop beats that stop the tune being self-indulgent or self-pitying. The track is taken from the Subtle Manoeuvres album.

The subtle manoeuvres title is take from a Kafka quote “Time is short, my strength is limited, the office is a horror, the apartment is noisy, and if a pleasant, straightforward life is not possible, then one must try to wriggle through by subtle manoeuvres.”
