TSHA – Badadaba #downtempo #electronic #soul

What is it with Bonobo (Simon Green)? I mean I remember his stuff in the 00s. All good downtempo but not standing apart from lots of others of the period. I guess I haven’t particularly followed his post Tru Thoughts work. And yet he’s currently referenced a lot by upcoming downtempo artists. In TSHA here’s another one. The biog says “TSHA is a producer / DJ from London who began producing after seeing Bonobo live in Berlin.” Whatever the reason I’m glad he influenced her. On Badadaba we have a lovely organic downtempo track that holds its own against any 90s/00s downtempo track you’d care to mention.

Strings pluck away in an almost post-rock band setting. Beats riffle around. There’s even a hint of flute for a proper kaftan experience. This tune has joss sticks smoking in the background. Not too much patchouli please. There’s even a bit of soulful whoahs and ba ba. And that’s where the magic happens. A confusion of influences blends into a perfect melange rather than the cacophony you might otherwise expect. The different elements are brilliantly handled so that they’re all clear but all in harmony.
