DUGLO – Subway Preacher #electronic #downtempo #house

I find proselytism makes me uncomfortable. This is the act of attempting to convert people to another religion or opinion. The word proselytize comes from the Greek prefix προσ- and the verb ἔρχομαι in the form of προσήλυτος. Means towards, to come, newcomer. It’s illegal in some countries. Not mine. There’s a constant weekend barking down my high street in the battle for souls between muslins and christians, with Jehovah’s Witnesses going round the door to door. The people shouting their form of salvation by the tube station. There’s no escape. Leave me alone.

Brooklyn producer Duglo has taken one of these street preachers and made him (they’re almost always ‘him’) the centre of his Street Preacher track. Duglo says “This track is based around a field recording I took on the New York City subway.” There’s a lovely calmness to the tune. Four minutes of respite. A centredness to the lonely guitar that makes everything ok. A retreat from the hubbub of the preacher man. Fabulous track.
