New music: Amon Tobin – On a Hilltop Sat the Moon #electronic #idm #ambient #folktronica

Can it really be seven years since we last had a post from Amon Tobin? Seemingly so. He’s back with a new single ahead of a new album.

Amon Tobin’s new album Fear in a Handful of Dust is his first album in eight years and the opening release from his new label, Nomark. It’s out on 26 April. His work has ranged across electronic genres. Always beautifully constructed and ranging from drum and bass, through breakbeat and ambient. Much of his best work was released on Ninjatune in the decade from the mid-90s.

So, where does opening single and opening track from the album rest its head? On A Hilltop Sat The Moon is a hazy piece of ambient electronics with an air of Mexicana / Americana to the wonky guitar sounds. Like the opening to a dry desert bloodspatttered Western. There’s a shimmer to the sound from the vibratto. A heat haze infused tune of beautiful anticipation. I, for one, can’t wait for the album.
