Break out the big guns with: Four Tet, and Fatboy Slim #House #IDM #Minimal

A couple of dance’s big guns return with new tracks – Four Tet and Fatboy Slim.

Four Tet is offering Baby ft Ellie Goulding from his forthcoming album Sixteen. The track is another of Kieran Hebden’s minimal IDM clattering tracks with a chopped up sample from Ellie Goulding. It’s full of top end sounds, and Burial-style dubstep clatter. The addition of the vocal gives it a bit of digital R&B feel. There’s a sweet minimal vibe here, especially when the vocal drops out and it goes more towards ambient, but somehow this ends up slightly candy floss.

And so to Fatboy Slim whose classic Praise You gets a remix from Left/Right. I don’t really know Left/Right but his biog says, “Left/Right works from the shadows as a dj, producer, and professor.” Left/Right premiered it at his Shambhala performance and it has been awaiting a release ever since. The remix cleverly takes you on a journey with this version, elevating the mood slowly from deep grooves into pure, hands-in-the-air moments. The vocal sample is beautifully used with the piano break to really give that emotional punch. But otherwise the track tends to pull its punches adding to the anticipation inherent in it. There’s a psychedelic haziness to it all as if heard through a morning mist at sunrise. A proper addition to the FBS canon.
