The week starts with some chilled hip hop from Alex Mora, and YourFavourite #HipHop #Instrumental #Chill

Some weeks need to start with a bang and some weeks need to be eased into gently. This is one of the latter. So, some chilled hip hop from Alex Mora and YourFavourite on the menu.

Alex Mora is from El Paso, Texas and his music has a chilled jazzy swing. Here’s Humility, the final track on his album Precipitation. He says that, “The idea behind humility is the idea that we can learn a lot more when we stop knowing all of the answers.”

It’s brief but beautiful, coming in at under 2 mins. But it does have that fabulous Tommy Lee Jones sample from The Men In Black about “Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the earth was the centre of the universe. Five hundred years ago everybody knew the earth was flat. And fifteen minutes ago you knew people were alone on this planet.” The beats are crisp and set in the middle distance. The foreground is occupied by a rich wandering synth that takes a sax cum clarinet approach to jazzing things up in a slow deliberative way. Like it says, “Imagine what you’ll know tomorrow.” Beautiful.

YourFavourite is from Romania. He makes hip hop instrumentals influenced by the old school era. That and lots of jazziness is apparent on When I Hold You. Some stuttering hip hop beats and an almost lounge atmosphere. What he calls a “lushy flavour.” This is a pink bubblegum track. It’s sweet and a remembered past that never existed. A late night reminisce. Woozy strings come and go. Hours pass by. But the beat remains until the record clicks off the jukebox. Dive back into the past and make this your favourite.
