Midweek experimental from No sir – Helium #IDM #Electronic #Experimental

Midweek needs either to start soothing or to start stiumulating. It’s the latter today with No sir’s experimental tune Helium.

No sir is Annie Murnighan from Brooklyn, New York. Her biog offers only that, “She makes music by herself and with the band Obstacle.”

And so to the lightly experimental Helium. Helium is the second lightest and second most abundant element in the observable universe. I was therefore expecting something more ambient and weightless. But this isn’t that. It’s better. It’s a carefully constructed and produced IDM track that has a spring in its step. The beats have a solid crunch but synths skitter around amid the electronic skitter and hiss.

There are flickers in here of an indie rock track that’s been broken into pieces and refashioned from old bits of metal, plastic and tape. It’s all rather satisfyingly analogue with an almost dub sense itself. Lift yourself through the midweek blues with this lovely awkward IDM track.
